A Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas anunciou os 395 artistas e executivos que foram convidados a ingressar neste ano – cerca de metade do número de turmas do ano passado. A classe de 2021 é composta por 46% de mulheres, 39% de comunidades étnicas/raciais sub-representadas e 53% de internacionais de 49 países fora dos Estados Unidos. Dos 395 convidados, 89 são ex-indicados ao Oscar, incluindo 25 vencedores.

Oito indivíduos foram convidados a ingressar por vários grupos e devem selecionar um ramo após a aceitação. Eles incluem Leslie Odom Jr (atores e música, “One Night in Miami”), Kaouther Ben Hania (diretores e escritores, “The Man Who Sold His Skin”), Craig Brewer (diretores e escritores, “Hustle & Flow”), Lee Isaac Chung (diretores e escritores, “Minari”), Emerald Fennell (diretores e escritores, “Mulher jovem promissora”), Shaka King (diretores e escritores, “Judas e o Messias Negro”), Alexander Nanau (diretores e documentário, “Coletivo”), Florian Zeller (diretores e escritores, “Meu Pai”).
